When planning your Christmas tree, you may do a different type of tree every year. Some have the same tree year after year. This is their tradition. The Christmas tree can be a small tabletop variety or it can be a huge nine foot tree. Or it can be larger. Most people opt for one that is about six or seven feet depending on the height of their ceiling. Just as there are many different sizes there are also many different kinds. There are Norfolk Pines, Eastern White Pined, Douglas Fir and the Balsam Fir. These are only a few of the ones available. There are many other types.

Just remember you want a full bodied tree - one that you cannot see through the branches and you want a symmetrical tree. It should be in the shape of a triangle. In other words, it should be small at the top and get wider the closer the branches go to the bottom. It does not have to be a perfect triangle. This is just the general shape you want your tree to have.

When it comes time to decorate your Christmas tree you want to have the best looking one in the neighborhood. Whatever color you decide to use on the tree, keep the same general theme throughout the rest of the decorations you will be using. Decorating the tree should be fun and by using the same colored themed ornaments your Christmas tree will have a festive yet well defined look. The decorations are varied so you will have plenty of choices when you decide what to buy.

There are white Christmas trees, silver, gold and green. There are multi-colored trees although this may not be your style. They do make a beautiful sight when the decorating theme goes with the tree. Since Christmas only comes once a year, you have all year to plan what type of tree you will have.

When purchasing a tree, look to see if it already has the lights on it because many today are pre-lit. These also come with various colored lights and you can find the color on the outside of the box. So if you want a white lighted Christmas tree, they are available in pre-lit as well as the multi-colored. These are preferred by many people who just do not like to deal with strings of lights.

Christmas trees come in so many different varieties that you will be sure to find the one that will fit right in with your holiday decorating ideas. Many people have more than one tree in their home for the holidays. Often they will have one in a formal living room and another in a family room where everyone gathers. No matter where or how many Christmas trees you use in your home, they will just add to this festive time of year.
